A short Christmas bonus for paid subscribers comes in the form of this snippet from a recent interview I had with Ferdinand Habsburg. A good friend of his one-time Formula 3 teammate Sacha Fenestraz, Habsburg was strongly linked to a potential drive in Super Formula during the dark days of the COVID-19 pandemic, even telling my former Motorsport.com colleague Rachit Thukral in late 2020 that he was actively seeking out chances to race in Japan the following season.

Unfortunately, such a chance never materialised, and Habsburg instead pursued a different path, joining Team WRT in the FIA World Endurance Championship. After three seasons in the LMP2 ranks, he progresses to the Hypercar class in 2024 as a factory driver for the brand-new Alpine LMDh project. But what if he had embarked on a different path and ended up racing in Super Formula instead?
